Environmental processes are often time consuming, expensive and complicated, and there are extended sets of regulations to take into account. The Environmental Code (Miljöbalken) is the central act in the area but there are many other laws that concern environmental issues, such as the Planning and Building Act, the Fisheries Act and the Hunting Act. Sweden is also connected to 40 international environmental conventions to protect the environment and conserve natural resources.
